During the National Eating
Disorders Awareness Week, the UC Davis Association for Body Image
and Disordered Eating Committee (ABIDE) will host a series of
events and workshops aimed at celebrating every body, reducing
the prevalence of disordered eating, and showcasing the resources
our community has to offer.
CELEBRATE YOUR BODY WEEK is open to both the campus and surrounding
communities, and all events are free. Read on!
Love Myself Monday ~ February 25
The Great Jeans Giveaway & Meet Life-Sized Barbie!
11:00-2:00 p.m., MU Patio (the Griffin Lounge if rain)
Donate the jeans in your closet that give you the body blues and
help local citizens in need. You’ll get some free stuff,
along with helpful information on eating disorders and body image
from on & off-campus resources.
Mindful Eating: Creating a Loving Relationship with Food
4:10-5:00 p.m., Fielder Room, MU
Learn to develop a nonjudgmental, conscious, and peaceful relationship
with food. Experience some basic principles about the practice
of mindful eating through a mindful eating exercise. Part of Body
Esteem Boot Camp. Facilitated by CAPS staff Diana Hill and Brandi
Baumkirchner.
Getting Physical!

Wondering how to start a healthy exercise routine? ARC Wellness
Coordinator, Sarah Gentle will help you set realistic goals, develop

(and effective) exercise habits, and inspire you to maintain a
“feel-good” lifestyle!
Displacing Eurocentric Beauty
5:00-7:00 p.m., East Conference Room, MU
Join us as we de-construct the Eurocentric idea of beauty! We’ll
celebrate
physical aesthetic in diverse cultures and communities through
visual
representations and images of various ages, genders, races/ethnicities,
religions, abilities, sexual orientations, and classes.
A discussion led by Cross Cultural Center and CAPS interns.

Do Men Have Eating Disorders?

Although not as widely spoken about, nearly one million men in
the U.S.
have a form of disordered eating. Especially for men, this presentation,
covers societal pressures and our conceptions of masculinity and
body
image. Facilitated by CAPS staff Carlos Canales & Michael
Maguire.
What to Eat? Nutrition Tips for Fueling
Your Body

Whether you live in a dorm, eat out regularly, or are simply looking
for
tips on how to eat healthy, this program is for you! Learn healthful
eating on the go tips and get all your nutrition questions answered

Ryann Miller, Clinical Dietitian from the Cowell Student Health
Center.

Body Esteem Basics

Get Inspired! This interactive workshop will challenge negative
body image and inspire participants to make positive changes in
their environments, and in the way they view themselves. Facilitated
by CAPS staff Jennifer Sand & Brandi Baumkirchner.
Lovin’ The Skin You’re In
12:00-1:00 p.m., LGBTRC, University House Annex
Specifically for LGBTIQ students and allies, this presentation
will include
an open discussion of image issues unique to the queer community.
We’ll discuss how to foster a healthy relationship with
food, with self, and in the community. Facilitated by Melissa
McLain, CAPS.
Bodies in Motion: For Athletes, Coaches,
Personal Trainers, and Friends
4:10-6:00 p.m., DeCarli Room, MU
This is a two-part presentation that will: a) define compulsive
exercise or Exercise Bulimia and outline 5 main signs to look
for in your client and friend, and b) identify and combat the
unique demands within a sport environment that put competitive
athletes at risk for developing negative body image and unhealthy
weight management habits. Facilitated by Liz Boyer of CAPS and
Peach Friedman, of Summit Eating Disorders & Outreach Program
and author of Diary of an Exercise Addict.
KEYNOTE: Do I Look Fat in This? With Jess
Weiner
7:00-9:00 p.m., ARC Ballroom
In this creative, dramatic program, Jessica Wiener combines storytelling,
video clips and personal experiences to weave together a dialogue
shared from the heart. Jessica delivers a message of hope and
clarity around the worlds of eating disorders, body loathing and
self-esteem. This program will empower you with tools to change
your mind and language while helping your loved ones, your friends,
and yourself.

Body Image, Disability and the Media
2:10-4:00 p.m., Smith Room, MU
This interactive program will highlight how TV and movies portray
persons with disabilities, and what impact it has on society.
Participants will be inspired to make positive changes in the
way that they view themselves and others. Facilitated by Jennifer
Gibson, Director of the Student Disabilities Center and Susie
Kisber, CAPS.
Eat, Pray, Love: A Book Discussion
Finding Insight & Inspiration for Eating Disorder Recovery
5:30-7:30 p.m., Smith Room, MU
Occasionally, a book that has little to do with eating disorders
is rich
with insight, wisdom and hope that can be used to help illuminate
the path
towards recovery. Join Jennifer Lombardi, MFT of Sacramento’s
Summit
Eating Disorders and Outreach Program, in a poignant discussion
on how this book can be used to make peace with the body, mind
and spirit. The UC Davis Bookstore is offering a 30% discount
on this book throughout February.
