are we there yet? homepage

Have women arrived? Has equity been achieved? Some people think so. There are arenas where women have made significant strides over the past three decades. But it is easy-and perhaps convenient--to confuse the progress made toward full equity for women with women reaching that goal. There are still significant ways in which women are not equal in our society, or on our campus, and the WRRC is making that point this fall with our Are We There Yet? informational campaign. Consider these points:

1975
4% proportion of Congressional seats filled by women

2005
15% proportion of Congressional seats filled by women

1973
Women gain the legal right to make reproductive decisions about their own bodies

2005
Politicians, judges and pharmacists still decide when and how women can control their own bodies
