Applications are now available for immigrant students or those who are of immigrant descent seeking equal opportunities to access higher education, have demonstrated a strong academic background, and are involved in their communities. UCLA CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF WOMEN ANNOUNCES: 20TH ANNUAL GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2010 - Thinking Gender Deadline for submissions: Monday, October 19, 2009 at Noon. Conference: Friday, February 5, 2010; UCLA Faculty Center Thinking Gender is a public conference highlighting graduate student research on women, sexuality and gender across all disciplines and historical periods. We invite submissions for individual papers or pre-constituted panels, particularly about research on labor, social justice, public policy; the global and globalization; race and ethnicity in the Americas; the "new" economy (austerity) and its effects on women and people of color. In celebration of the Center for the Study of Women's 25th anniversary, we are also interested in topics relating to feminism's past and present, changing notions of feminism, feminist community/ies both off and online, and feminist icons and leaders. La Fundacion para el Bienestar y Desarrollo del Chocó -The Foundation for the Well-being and Development of Chocó (FUNBICHOCÓ)invites all to join them for their third annual dinner to support the displaced women from Chocó, Colombia After Sudan, Colombia is the country with the most internally displaced people. Nearly ten percent of the population has been forced from their homes. These displaced are disproportionately women and children because the men are selectively killed. The women's bank, initiated with the funds from the first dinner, is growing and continues to give these women micro-loans which allow them to start small businesses. This year FUNBICHOCÓ is celebrating the successes of 105 women and their businesses. They want to continue giving more women a solid reason to dream of a better world. Reaffirming Ethnic Awareness and Community Harmony (R.E.A.C.H.) is a three day retreat organized by the Cross Cultural Center and held at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa in Kelseyville, CA. It is comprised of workshops and home group activities which focus on the seven dimensions: Ability, Age, Class, Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation and Spirituality. The University of Chicago Press is pleased to announce the competition for the 2011 Catharine Stimpson Prize for Outstanding Feminist Scholarship. Named in honor of the founding editor of Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, the Catharine Stimpson Prize is designed to recognize excellence and innovation in the work of emerging feminist scholars. Leading feminist scholars from around the globe will select the winner. The prize-winning paper will be published in Signs, and the author will be provided an honorarium of $1,000. She believes that reproductive justice is crucial in the struggle for social change and the fight to end oppression. Through her work on disability, race, reproductive justice, gender, sexuality, and transracial adoption, she recognizes the urgency and barriers for oppressed communities to work together and build alliances for liberation.
