"Medium" is whatever materials you used to create your project, for example: acryllics, screenprinting, photography, film, and mixed media are types of acceptable media. “If I am submitting written work, what
would the medium be? You could use “Paper” or as your
medium, or label it as N/A. The Gallery at the MU will insure all pieces
in case of catastrophe. If you will insure you own work, check the box,
but this is not usual. The Gallery is set up to handle the insurance
needs of the exhibit. Why do you ask what the “Estimated Value" is? It is for insurance purposes during the exhibit.
To estimate the worth of your piece, consider: the cost of materials,
your time in recreating the piece, and the loss of value from having
to recreate versus having the original. In other words, how much
would it cost to replace? (in terms of time and materials) It's
slightly nebulous but necessary! If your piece is replaceable, like
it's written work you've saved as a Word document and can print anytime,
you can just put N/A because you'll be able to replace it if something
happens. This is whatever you would like to call your project. Some title is preferred for exhibition purposes, so if you don't already have one, try to choose something appropriate to your project. Since I am entering a pair of poems
with two different titles, how do I list the “project title” on the
entry form? You can list it this way: Title 1/Title 2.
Project title is required. Are all fields of the application form required? All fields are required unless they are not applicable
(N/A) to your project. WRITTEN ENTRIES My entry would consist of poetry. Do I need to have my name, the title and the date on the poems themselves? The first page of your written work should be a "cover page" with your name and the title(s). Each piece of written work should also have the title at the top of the page. Does poetry qualify as a "written" entry and therefore does not need the paragraph explanation? Written entries, such as poetry, fiction, or
non-fiction do not need an artist explanation. The explanation is the
work itself. You can leave this section blank. PRESENTATION OF PIECES TO EXHIBIT Do I have to frame my piece? I can't afford professional framing. You may present your work in any way that you choose, just try to keep it clean and presentable. Professional framing is not necessary, and glass is not recommended. A simple frame is a good idea to maintain the integrity of the work during hanging, if you choose. I would like to submit my work for consideration: it is a painting on butcher's paper. I was wondering if it needs to be framed or presented on plexiglass cover and foam (as stated in the agreement). I usually hang it as it is, and I need to be able to still roll it up and carry it with me for travel purposes. For the exhibition, you can bring your piece unframed,
but you'll As a choreographer, I'll be submitting a DVD of my work. How many DVD copies do you need? And do you just need one copy of the statement of how my piece addresses the prize theme? You should submit one DVD with your full presentation, and a second DVD with a 5-minute clip (shorter is fine if it is a short piece). So, you would need to submit: Two DVD copies, and then also email the statement so we also have it electronically to ellenhansenprize@gmail.com
COLLABORATION Can collaborating artists as a group (i.e. of two or three students) submit one piece? Absolutely! If you would like to work within a group, you may do so. Please have one person be designated as the contact person for the group, and list a group name instead of one person's name. In the explanation field, please list all the group members names.
