WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE PRIZE?
All UC Davis women students–undergraduate, graduate and professional school students—are eligible for the Prize. You must be enrolled and in good academic standing in both Winter and Spring Quarter, 2008. If you PELP in Winter or Spring 2008, you’re not eligible to apply.

Your work can’t be entered simultaneously in another competition, and you can’t have received a previous Ellen Hansen Memorial Prize. Financial need is not a consideration in the competition.

WHAT QUALIFIES AS AN
"ORIGINAL CREATIVE PROJECT "?

Original creative projects include visual art, such as painting, sculpture, design or photography; literary work, such as fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry; and performance pieces, such as a musical composition, creative dance, film, or performance art.

Entries are judged on their artistic quality as well as how they demonstrate the bravery and independence of women. Entries need not be created specifically for this Prize competition, but your work must reflect the Prize theme.

HOW MUCH OF MY WORK SHOULD I ENTER?
Poetry: up to twelve poems or twenty typed pages, single-spaced
Fiction or creative non-fiction: up to twenty typed pages, double-spaced
Work in a language other than English: provide a translation
Visual art: a single piece, or a body of work which has one title and one statement
Performance art: up to fifteen minutes of audio tape/CD or videotape/DVD
Music: up to two pieces
Textiles: up to four pieces

WHAT'S THE PROCESS?
• Write a one-paragraph statement to accompany your entry addressing how your submission reflects the Prize theme -
the bravery and independence of women. (If your entry is a written entry, no accompanying statement is needed.)

• Submit your completed entry form by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008.

• All work will be shown in a special exhibit in The Gallery at the MU, May 6-15, 2008. You will be contacted by email with instructions to deliver your entry to the exhibit space.

• A faculty committee selects the Prize winner based on submitted material, and during the gallery exhibition. Awards will be announced at the reception on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

• You retain ownership and copyright to your work.

• You are responsible for delivery and retrieval of your entry. The WRRC is not responsible for unclaimed entries.

PRESENTATION
All accepted works must be ready to install.

Two-dimensional works
on paper must be framed or presented with Plexiglas cover and foam core backing for scrutiny by angle tacks; works on paper greater than 24 x 36" may be presented using an alternative method, however the artist must maintain professional standards for display. Works under glass without rigid frames will not be accepted.

All three-dimensional work must be suitably prepared for installation with supports and, if needed, mounting devices.

Acceptance of time-based media (film & performance art) may be dependent on the availability of technical equipment for installation.
