VAGINA MONOLOGUES IS COMING AGAIN TO UCD! Call
for V-Mon Director Application Deadline: Friday, November 13 by 5:00 p.m.
The Women's Resource and Research Center, in collaboration with the Consortium for Women and Research, is pleased to announce that The Vagina Monologues will be performed again this year, in February 2010. We are now searching for a Director for this year's performance.
Students (undergrad or grad), staff, faculty, and Davis community womyn, womyn-identified folks, and womyn with intersections of identities are welcomed and strongly encouraged to apply. Theater experience is a plus, but not required. The most important requirement for directing The Vagina Monologues is the desire to build a larger womyn-centered or feminist community at UC Davis, in the City of Davis and with the larger V-Day initiative: http://www.vday.org/. This is a volunteer position; you may receive two unit credit and transcript notation and gain the wonderful experience directing a full production of V-Mon! "This is What a Feminist Looks Like" is a photo project in the spirit of Ms. Magazine, of individuals on campus who identify themselves as feminists. Gender and Sexuality Uncovered (formerly titled Sex in the City) This presentation takes a closer look into how society, popular culture, and media affect our perception of gender and sexuality, and creating a more conscious and inclusive environment and on-campus. Sexy or Sexist? Messages from the Media This presentation examines the media's influence on how we perceive gender and sexuality. Utilizing media sources such as magazine and fashion ads we will examine how subjects like masculinity and hypersexuality are interpreted. The goal is to open up a discussion on advertised ideas of what is sexy for men and what is sexy for women, then to dissect how those assumptions can be unfavorable to gender identities. Chicks 'n' Flicks: Women in Film This presentation is about the portrayals of women in mainstream film. There will be a brief discussion on men and masculinity as it pertains to women in film. It discusses the societal standards of women including: beauty ideals, stereotypes, gender roles and racial roles. We will be using scenes from the following movies: "Sex and The City", "Transformers" and "The Women" then having a dialogue about how these standards affect perceptions of gender performance.
