HOW ABOUT A WORKSHOP JUST FOR YOUR GROUP?
Julienne Kwong Ratanasen, the WRRC's Gender Education Specialist, can present an engaging and interactive workshop for your group. Gender styles in leadership and communication, portrayals of women in the media, violence against women, eating disorders as a social justice issue, and overlapping identities of gender, race and sexuality are examples of the topics she can offer. She is also happy to present limited introductory self-defense workshops. Julienne will tailor the workshop to your specific needs.

  • Julienne can offer the following workshops:

    • How to Help a Friend
      Do your friends come to you with their problems? Are you in over your head? Or do you simply want to know what you can do to help? Learn the do’s and dont’s of supporting your friends, including the skills of effective listening and connecting to appropriate campus resources. You can do more than you think to help a friend in need.
    • Sexy or Sexist? Issues Facing Women Today
      Does sexism still exist? Share your thoughts in this lively and engaging discussion on current issues that women face. We’ll watch video clips from popular films and TV shows to begin thinking about how gender affects our lives on a daily basis.
    • Developing the Confident Woman in You
      Learn how to project your inner confidence outward in all that you do—from school and work to relationships. Drawing on your personal strengths, explore ways to be assured and effective in your communication style. We welcome women of all confidence levels into this safe space, where discussion and activities are designed to empower you.
    • The Appeal of Body Perfection
      In our image-obsessed society, up to one in three college women practice some form of disordered eating. This workshop provides a safe space to understanding eating disorders, including the social and cultural aspects that affect women of all racial, ethnic, and sexual identities. Learn about campus resources that can help.
    • Self Defense and Safety
      Learn strategies to increase your awareness and reduce your risk. We’ll teach you basic self-defense techniques that any woman can do. You will enhance your confidence, increase your security, and realize your own power.
