About

STEM for Girls invites 10 - 12 year old students from our partner schools in the Woodland and Sacramento areas to the University of California, Davis for a full day immersion into science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Our goals are to expose students to STEM fields, build confidence in their abilities to participate in STEM, and introduce them to relatable and accessible STEM role models. 2023 will be our 12th annual STEM for Girls and we cannot wait to introduce more students to the exciting and empowering world of STEM!

STEM for Girls is made possible, in part, through generous donations from BASF; Novozymes; HDR; the State Water Resources Control Board; the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Sacramento Post and private donors. Thank you so much for your continued support and commitment to gender equity in STEM and introducing youth to the empowering world of STEM!

We aim to increase interest in STEM, build a sense of belonging in STEM, connect underrepresented minorities with STEM role models, and more. Each year, we measure our impacts. This allows us to objectively analyze our progress, evaluate which areas need improved, and, when results are positive, advocate for our organization. We are incredibly proud of the impacts we have made on our visiting students and volunteers

Eligibility: STEM for Girls is open to students aged 10-12 years old and all genders. Currently, we work closely with 7 schools in Woodland Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District, and Washington Unified School District (West Sacramento). Each school invited, brings 10-15 students for the day from their student population. STEM for Girls has a waitlist for anyone interested in participating, who is not affiliated with a partner school. Please reach out to Sara at slblair@ucdavis.edu for more information on how to sign up on the waitlist.

Team Leaders: You will lead groups of 10 youth participants with a partner to the different workshops, lab tours, demonstrations and answer any questions the students may have. Team leaders must pass a background check and participate in a mandatory in-person and online training prior to the date of the event. We are currently recruiting Team Leaders for STEM for Girls 2024.

Volunteers: Are needed to help make this event happen! Volunteers have the opportunity to help with registration, clean-up, set-up, and other logistics. Please submit the STEM for Girls Volunteer Application to express your interest!
